Immediately following the ritual, the dancing of the poles also takes on the beach. There are between six and nine poles, depending on attendance.
All you need to bring with you to participate is nine (9) yards of ribbon of your choice. That’s it. (Pro tip: select a sturdy ribbon, as it is likely to get tugged upon pretty vigorously). Also, ribbon that is slightly wider (1″-2″ wide) works much better than very thin ribbon, but of course – to each their own. Also, the color or pattern on the ribbon is totally up to you. Bring ribbon that represents YOU!
